Honourable Commissioner

Objectives

(a) Management and promotion of Youth and related matters in Akwa Ibom State.

(b) Promotion of the Culture, tradition and norms of the Akwa Ibom Community in the march of Civilization.

(c) Preservation and projection of the arts of the people of Akwa Ibom State in the fields of graphics, fine arts, sculpture and performing arts.

 

(d) Sustenance of the ethnic dignity, identity and potentials of the Akwa Ibom person in the comity of Nigerian Nationals.

(e) The promotion of the Cultural heritage of different ethnic Groupings within Akwa Ibom traditional community.

Responsibilities

(a) General administration of the Ministry of Youth & Sports.

(b) Attending to the interests, needs and aspirations of Youths to

     enhance their involvement in Local, State and National Development.

(c) Supervision of the activities of the State Council for Arts and Culture.

(d) Supervision of NYSC Programmes in Akwa Ibom State.

Programmes

(a)   Organization of Youth Conferences.

(b)   Packaging of Seminars/Workshops for Youths in the State.

(c)   Organization of Christmas/Easter Youth Holiday Camping’s.

(d)   Organization of Youth Summit/Rallies.

(e)   Sponsorship of 2003 Youth Delegates to attend National

         Youth Summit.

(f)    Creation of Public awareness on indigenous dressing patterns.

 CURRENT PROJECTS

(a)   Construction of the permanent site of the NYSC Orientation Camp.

(b)   Renovation of former N.R.C. Party Secretariat for use by the

         Council for Arts and Culture.

(c)   Procurement of Millennium Band for Council for Arts & Culture.

(d)  Tracing of land in the State Capital for the construction of Youth

         Centre.

(e)   Renting and furnishing of Secretariat for State Youth Council.

(f)    Building and equipping of 1 No. Youth Centre Complex in Uyo.

(g)   Sponsoring a number of Youth and Cultural activities including

        Youth Conferences during the year.

Investment Opportunities

  1. Opportunities exist in the area of Cultural exportation in the raffia works and woodcarvings in the State. These include masquerades, raffia shoes and tapestry.

  2. The Sculptural Works of Sunny-Jack Akpan has drawn International attention to the arts of Akwa Ibom State. The French Cultural Centre - LA MAISON DE FRANCE has been a frontliner in the promotion and exportation of Sculptor in Akwa Ibom State.

  3. In the performance arts, the debut performances of Udo Mariam and his group has been a refreshing source of Cultural Entertainment for foreigners and this group has toured the Americas, Europe and Asia, promoting the entertainment Industry in Akwa Ibom State.

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State

 It is with utmost gratitude to God and immeasurable joy that I stand before you today as your Executive Governor. On behalf of my wife, your first lady; my entire family, my deputy and his dear wife, I thank you, my people, for voting en masse for PDP in the general elections of April 14 and 21/26/2007. I salute your maturity, courage and peaceful disposition during and after the elections. I salute you for reposing your confidence in me right from the primaries of December 14, 2006 and bringing it to a climax on April 14, 2007. I assure you that your decision shall never be in vain. Today, we celebrate our self-worth as a people and our ability to strengthen democratic ideals by voting according to our conscience. We have taken the right step in our march towards a glorious future.

 

Fellow citizens, this is a new era signifying a renewal and symbolizing an end as well as a beginning. Above all, we are witnessing, not just the beginning of another chapter of history but beholding the actualization of God’s will in Akwa Ibom State.
