Objectives of the Ministry:


The main objectives of the ministry are hinged on the four cardinal ministerial responsibilities which include:

  • Promoting and regulating industrial activities in the state;

  • Promoting, regulating and controlling trade activities in the state;

  • Regulating and controlling produce trade;

  • Promoting and developing tourism in the state.

Responsibilities of the Departments/Directorates in the Ministry:


There are six directorates in the ministry with various functions. These directorates are those of Industry, Commerce, Tourism, Produce, Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) and Administration and Finance.

The Directorate of Industry has the responsibility of formulating policies for development of industries in the state, monitor the performance of industrial enterprises which government has equity share; monitor the performance of small-scale industries as well as assist entrepreneurs to set up small and medium- scale industries in the state

The Directorate of Commerce has the duty of encouraging the production and distribution of goods and services. This is done so as to meet the major thrust of government policy on Commerce in the state, which is the promotion of non-oil export trade.

The Directorate of Tourism has the functions of generating foreign exchange from both domestic and international tourist centres, promote cultural exchange and encourage the development of the numerous potentials in the state.

The Produce Directorate is saddled with the responsibility of inspection and grading of agricultural commodity. The Planning, Research and Statistics Directorate monitors all the projects undertaken by the Ministry as well as collect data for effective planning.
