Investment Opportunities:
Akwa Ibom
State is endowed with vast mineral and agricultural
resources, favourable climate and abundance of rich,
fertile soil which if properly exploited, can tremendously
help in the economic development of the State. Apart from
this, tourist attractions exist beckoning on holidaymakers
to avail themselves of these God-given potentials.
Investment opportunities therefore exist in Industry,
Agriculture, Tourism, Transportation, Housing and
Communication. To make the above easy, Industrial Estates
and Parks with basic infrastructures exist at Uyo, Oron,
Abak, Eket, Ikot Abasi and Ikot Ekpene as incentives to
would-be investors. Other incentives include the provision
of electricity, water, access roads, and telecommunication
facilities among others.
INDUSTRIES AVAILABLE:
The State
Government has equity in the following industries: Quality
Ceramics, Itu; Sunshine Batteries Limited, Essien Udim;
Qua Steel Product Ltd, Eket; Abestonit Industries, Oron.
It should be noted that they are ailing and need
reactivation. Peacock paints Ltd is functioning and
producing at about 50% installed capacity. Interested core
investors are invited to form partnership with the State
Government to reactivate and operate these companies.
The
companies that the Federal Government has equity holdings
in Akwa Ibom State include Aluminum Smelter Company of
Nigeria (ALSCON) Ikot Abasi and Nigeria Newsprint
Manufacturing Company (NNMC) Oku Iboku, Itu. Multinational
companies operating in the state are the oil giants,
Exxon-Mobil, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC)
and Elf.
