DIRECTORATE OF INFORMATION
As
the name implies, the Information Directorate is the
professional arm of the Ministry headed by the Director of
Information.
Schedule
of Duty for Information Directorate
Director – Head of Department
In line with
the Ministerial statutory responsibilities, the Directorate
performs such functions as:
i) Publishing
Government programmes, through its publications,
Radio/TV
programs, brochures and news bulletins, public
relations
functions for Government;
ii) Organizes campaigns for enlightenment and education;
iii) Coordinating and supervising all statutory duties of
Information;
iv) Advising Government on information publicity and
public relation
matters;
v)
Representing State Government in State and National Conferences
especially on information/communication matters;
vi)
Supervising activities of Parastatals of the Ministry – the AKBC,
the
Pioneer, the Council for Arts and Culture and the Ethical and
Attitudinal Re-orientation Commission;
vii) Assisting Government in formulating
information/communication
policies that would help in the designing of strategies for
effective
mobilization of citizens in support of Government.
News
Division
i) Production
of Government News Bulletins and press releases;
ii) Scripting Government messages, adverts and news promos.
Radio/TV
Programmes Division
i)
Researching into and publishing Government programmes,
activities and achievements in video documentary for airing on
State
electronic media;
ii) Preparation of scripts for commentary and narration;
iii) Supervision of all post production work
including film editing,
script treatment, commentary writing and previewing of such
before final airing on radio and television.
Public
Relations, Protocol/Media Monitoring Division
i) Developing
publicity programmes to build good public image of
Government;
ii)
Creating a two-way channel of communication between
Government and the people to correct misconceptions and
misunderstanding of Government policies and
programmes;
iii) Managing rumours and bringing them into
constructive
perspective;
iv)
Coordinates protocol activities during State functions and
visits;
v)
Moderates at public events;
vi)
Organisation of press briefings/press conferences;
vii) Designing public relations strategies that will
help in building
good
public image of Government;
viii)
Performs Public Relation duties for Government;
ix)
Maintains protocol list in the State.
Publication Division
Deputy Director of Information – Head of Publication Division
i) Responsible
for initiating, planning and executing of official
publicity/public
relations materials e.g. State Calendar, Diary,
Executive Posters and other publication on general information
about
Akwa Ibom State;
ii)
Assist the Director of Information in personnel/administrative
matters;
iii) Oversees the circulation/distribution of Government
publicity
materials
to Government establishments and the general public;
iv) Acts
as one of the Directors of “Government Half Hour” – Radio/TV
programmes
of the Ministry;
v) Ad
hoc duties to be undertaken include attending to activities of
the
social mobilization and technical committee on UNICEF –
assisted
programmes in Akwa Ibom State.
Graphics
Division
i) Production
of visuals and finished art work for the Ministry;
ii) Making of cover designs for books, magazines and
brochures;
iii)
Production of designs for post cards, Christmas cards and
posters;
iv) Pictorial paintings and art creation for exhibition.
MEDIA INFORAMTION MANAGEMENT SERVICES/DOCUMENTARY
Info-Data Unit
i)
Researching into all topical and current issues and providing
and
custodying such information for reference purpose;
ii) Keeping
and maintaining information data bank to be used as
reference point by practicing journalists and researchers;
iii) Providing
all information on all subjects as may be required by the
Ministry
and the public;
iv) Maintaining
a library of films, books, video cassettes, film clips,
photographs,
magazines brochures, pamphlets, posters, etc. for
references;
v) Manage
information records;
vi) Collating all information materials from Local Government
Information Offices and State Ministries for use in News
Bulletins and
other
publications.
