Activities of Earcom

Objective/Policy Thrust:   To re-engineer and reawaken the psyche of the Akwa Ibom person and make him/her conscious of his/her self-worth, proud of his/her Akwa Ibom heritage, assertive, totally responsive, friendly and investment conscious.

EARCOM STAFF STRENGTH

            i.          Directorate of Administration and Finance            -           20

            ii.         Planning Research and Statistics Directorate      -               1

            iii.        Public Enlightenment/Education Directorate         -           2

 

Responsibilities/Functions:        Summarized as follows:

i.          To re-engineer the entire citizenry for greater responsibilities and a better society.

ii.         To restore our ethical and moral sensibilities which have been wantonly traumatized over the years.

To minimize the rampant corruption and immorality in the public service and also curtail the cynical contempt for integrity which pervades all levels of the bureaucracy in our state, and

To explain government at all levels to the people in order to solicit co-operation for better results, and explain the people to government.

 

FUNCTIONS OF EACH COMMISSIONER

The Commissioner’s main function is to oversee the re-orientation exercise in the three Senatorial Districts of the State. Each of the Commissioners performs similar functions in their respective jurisdictions.

 
 

The Functions are indicated below:

  • To energize the conscience of every indigene and resident of the State to his rights, privileges, responsibilities and obligations as a citizen of Nigeria.

  • To propagate and promote the spirit of the dignity of labour, honesty and commitment to qualitative production and consumption of home produced commodities and services.

  • To re-orientate the State indigenes and residents to shed their general attitudes to wastage and preferences of affluence in their lifestyles.

  • To orientate the populace about power; its use and the proper role of the State and Local Governments in serving the interest of the State.

  • To propagate the need to eschew all vices in public life including corruption, dishonesty, electoral and census malpractice, ethnic, parochial and religious bigotry.

  • To propagate the virtue of hard work, honesty, loyalty, self-reliance, commitment to and promotion of inter-ethnic integration.

  • To mobilize the populace for positive patriotic participation in and identification with State and National affairs and issues.

  • To sensitize the populace to fight against all forms of internal and external domination of State and National resources by few individual or groups.

  • To ensure and uphold leadership by example.

  • To foster respect for constituted authority.

  • To restore and sustain discipline in the State

  • To encourage the people to take part actively and freely in discussing and decisions affecting their welfare.

  • To awaken the consciousness of the populace to their civic responsibilities.

  • To develop among people of all ages and sex social and cultural values an awareness which will inculcate the spirit of Patriotism, Nationalism, Self discipline and Self reliance.

  • To establish a feedback channel on all aspects of National life.

  • To ensure that Government programmes and policies are better understood by the general public.

  • To encourage informal education through public enlightenment activities and publication.

  • To sensitize the public of their obligations to observe the provisions of Section 23 and 24 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

  • To encourage the teaching of civics, the construction, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and moral instructions in school.

  • Preach against juvenile delinquency among pupils in schools.

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State

 It is with utmost gratitude to God and immeasurable joy that I stand before you today as your Executive Governor. On behalf of my wife, your first lady; my entire family, my deputy and his dear wife, I thank you, my people, for voting en masse for PDP in the general elections of April 14 and 21/26/2007. I salute your maturity, courage and peaceful disposition during and after the elections. I salute you for reposing your confidence in me right from the primaries of December 14, 2006 and bringing it to a climax on April 14, 2007. I assure you that your decision shall never be in vain. Today, we celebrate our self-worth as a people and our ability to strengthen democratic ideals by voting according to our conscience. We have taken the right step in our march towards a glorious future.

 

Fellow citizens, this is a new era signifying a renewal and symbolizing an end as well as a beginning. Above all, we are witnessing, not just the beginning of another chapter of history but beholding the actualization of God’s will in Akwa Ibom State.
