Objectives of the Ministry:

Supervision and Co-ordination of Local Government and Chieftaincy Activities in the State

Responsibilities of the Ministry:

• Advisory, Supervisory/Monitoring services on the performance/operations of Local Government Councils in the State in accordance with the rules and regulations governing their operations.

• Provision, custody and distribution of security documents and other materials to the Local Government Councils.

• Valuation and Tenement Rating as a source of internally generated revenue for Local Government Councils.

• Collection and processing of statistical data from Local Government Areas on Local Government Personnels

• Revenue and Expenditure, Public Utilities and Development projects
• Co-ordination, supervision and control of marriage Registration in the State.
• Communication and Enlightenment of State Government Policies and programmes to Local Government and Traditional Councils.
• Classification, Recognition, Discipline, Remuneration and general welfare of Traditional Rulers in the State.
• General Personnel and Administrative functions.
• Joint responsibilities on Boundary matters (international, inter-State and intra-State) with the Office of the Deputy Governor in conjunction with the Ministry of Lands and Housing and the Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs
